Only that they were working towards that deadline at the time. Even if that statement had any weight, it does not claim that anything will happen in 2021. With releases on Game Pass, Xbox Series X and xCloud, that message is made all the more clear.ĭestiny 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Sadia. Some guy from marketing tweeting 'We’re working with Bungie to bring Destiny 2 Expansions with Xbox Game Pass for PC later in 2021' is not a promise. Since its split with Activision in 2019, Bungie has tried to make Destiny 2 one of the most ubiquitous shooters on the market. In a lot of ways, the details announced today are similar to the Sadia Premiere offering established with Google. These deals certainly make Destiny 2 available to a larger group of players, but those players will technically be playing the exact same game as those on Sony's PS4. These latest reveals suggest a strong bond between Microsoft and Bungie going forward, but the developer made it clear that no specific content will ever be exclusive to a single platform now or in the foreseeable future. In fact, even Microsoft itself has been pretty quiet with regard to xCloud news, as the service slowly inches its way out of beta and into a public release candidate.įor those who'd like a more powerful option with less latency than a stream, you'll be glad to know it's been reaffirmed once more that Destiny 2 will indeed be optimized for Xbox Series X later this year, with full 4K support and a 60 fps frame rate. This is a particularly notable reveal, as it is one of the first times a major third-party developer has made an xCloud-related announcement. BungieĪnd to make the Game Pass prospects even sweeter, those who have a premium subscription to Game Pass Ultimate will soon be able to stream Destiny 2 to their Android mobile phones via the emerging xCloud streaming platform. This isn’t to say Bungie and Microsoft will never re-reconnect, but yes, all of this comes off as very weird from the outside.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. In any case, things seems to be far removed from last year with the Beyond Light Game Pass launch. So…why didn’t this happen? Maybe it still can in the future, but this seems like a massive missed opportunity. That’s the most synergistic marketing opportunity I’ve ever seen, and it wouldn’t have even required Halo Infinite to “pay it back” and offer Destiny items in Halo Infinite (though again, that would be cool). Not that Infinite will need that much help acquiring players, but it’s easy to imagine how perfectly it would have worked out if Bungie blasted Destiny players with a dose of nostalgia with themed armor or special exotics pulled from Halo, quite literally the day before the new entry came out. Granted, I know 343 has their hands totally full with the myriad of spinning plates that is Halo Infinite, but the timing of this could have worked out perfectly as cross-promotion, as now, we have a super awkward situation of the Bungie Anniversary event, without any Halo content, launching the day before Halo Infinite. Will the DLCs be accessible when playing on PC or not English. But on thought I was also going to get Destiny 2 on PC and do the cross save function to stream with. And with Xbox’s Phil Spencer a die-hard Destiny fan, you can do the math as to what might have been the obstacle here. Hey guys, I recently got the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and this gave me the ability to have all the DLCs. The Anniversary thing? I know that this was not Bungie’s call, as they would have been obviously happy to do a Halo crossover in Destiny. Or maybe Microsoft simply didn’t offer them enough money this time around, and they thought The Witch Queen was high profile enough to demand a higher price than last time. If Bungie say, saw not enough player acquisition on Xbox and not enough microtransaction/seasonal spending from those players who got Beyond Light for free, maybe the decision was made that it wasn’t worth it to do another Game Pass run for Witch Queen. ![]() Outriders, for instance, seemed to cite a Game Pass launch as one of the reasons the game hasn’t made back its money in sales yet.įor Destiny? That’s unclear, but if Beyond Light on Game Pass was some massive success for both parties, you would imagine it would have continued for Witch Queen. While we know Game Pass can and has boosted the sales of some games, for others, it’s been a little murkier. The Game Pass issue might be a seldom addressed discussion that…maybe Game Pass is not the right choice for everyone.
